Meet Our Staff

Montessori of Chantilly Staff

Our Staff promotes a vibrant, harmonious school community. Together, our Administrators and Teachers work with students and families to create a school that is consistent with the philosophy and best practices of Montessori education.  Staff members encourage our students to explore, discover and experience the joy of learning.

We are most proud of the high quality and retention level of our staff.   Strong team members are the key to our school’s success.    We are honored to introduce the following individuals on our staff:

Deepa Simlot - Owner and Director

Simlot,  DeepaDeepa is a Montessori Certified Teacher for 3-6 year olds.  She has 3 children, all of whom are Primary Montessori graduates.  While volunteering in her children’s classes she discovered the beauty and power of Montessori philosophy and materials, and decided to make it her career.  She worked in the telecommunications industry as a computer engineer for 15 years before discovering that she would rather be around children than computers.

Lisa Turner - Assistant Director

Turner Lisa 9021 264792150Lisa holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, with a major in Sociology and a minor in Education.  As a parent of two students who attended Montessori of Chantilly, Lisa was an active member of the Parent Guild for four years and served on the Board as both Secretary and Treasurer.  Lisa has 11 years of business management experience, and  received her Professional Certification  in Human Resources (PHR).  She has been a parent at the school since 2006 and employed since 2010.

Katie Blandon - Office Administrator

Blandon Katie 9002 264792149Katie has been working with children ages 6 weeks to 14 years since 2002 as a Lead Teacher, Assistant Director and Director of various children’s programs.  Katie has been with MCDBC since 2011 and is currently working towards a degree in Special Education at Marymount University.

Heather Gutkowski - Primary Lead Teacher

Gutkowski Heather 9005 264792144Heather holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from James Madison University.  She received her Montessori Certification for 3- 6 year olds at the Institute of Advanced Montessori Studies at The Barrie School in Silver Spring, Maryland.  She has several years of Montessori teaching experience at a local school.

Shelly Wachter – Primary Lead Teacher

Wachter Shelly 9023 264792148Shelly has over 20 years of experience working with children of all ages.  She has worked as a Montessori teacher for the past 15 years in various capacities, including Primary Assistant, Toddler Lead, Primary Lead and Elementary Assistant.  Ms. Shelly completed her AMS (American Montessori Society) Training at the Barrie Institute in Silver Spring, Maryland, where she earned her Montessori Teaching Certificate for the 3-6 year old age group.   Ms. Shelly has several years of experience working with children who have learning and behavior challenges such as ADHD, detachment disorder, tactile defensive and oppositional defiance disorder.

 

Amee Dalugdug – Primary Lead Teacher

Manubay-Dalugdug Amee 9013 264792029Amee holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from De La Salle University in Philippines, and a Montessori teacher certificate from National Center for Montessori Education in New England.  She has been with MCDB since 2006.   Both of her sons are graduates of MCDBC.

 

Ingrid Jordan – Pre-Primary Lead Teacher

Jordan Ingrid 9009 264792055Ingrid holds a Montessori Teaching Certification from Northern Virginia Montessori Institute.  She has a degree in Pharmacy from Brazil.  She has been with MCDB since 2007.  She has been with MCDB since 2007. Ingrid is fluent in Spanish and loves to share Spanish language with her students.

Caroline Shibley – Pre-Primary Lead Teacher

Shibley Caroline 9017 264792079Caroline is a Montessori Certified Teacher for Infants and Toddlers from North Carolina Center for Montessori Teacher Education (CMTE).  She has a Bachelor’s in Arts from Marshall University.  She has been working with children since 1995, and has been a Lead Teacher for Toddlers since 2001.   Caroline has been with MCDBC since 2011.

 

Maria Vassalotti – Primary Assistant

Vassalotti Maria 9022 264792031Maria has been working as a Montessori Assistant since 1995.  She has an Associates Degree from Rhode Island Community College in Warwick, RI.  She has been with MCDBC since 2008.

Miyuki Yoon – Primary Assistant

Lin Miyuki 9012 264792030Miyuki is a native of Japan, and has been living in the United States for more than 18 years. She has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Strayer University. She has been with MCDBC since 2008.

Shaleena Shukla – Pre-Primary Assistant

Shukla Shaleena 9018 264792054Shaleena has been working as a Montessori Toddler Assistant since 2003.   She has been with MCDBC since 2006.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from India.

Julie Carlson - Pre-Primary Assistant

Carlson Julie 9003 264792082Julie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Finance from Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland.   Julie worked in administration for a printing company for over 12 years.  After staying home with her own children for several years, Julie provided child care in her home for neighborhood families.  She also has one year of experience working with elementary age students at Cardinal Ridge Elementary School.

Shanthi Stephen – Extended Day Coordinator

Shanthi has been working with Pre-School aged children since 2007 and at MCDBC since 2013.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and English from India.

Ann Howell - Primary Assistant & Extended Day Teacher

Howell Ann 9006 264792147Ann holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from George Mason University.  She has worked as a Preschool Teacher and Summer Camp Leader with Loudoun County Parks and Recreation for over 10 years.    Ann has also worked in a Special Education Classroom at Cardinal Ridge Elementary School.

 

Daniela (Della) Chun – Primary Assistant and Extended Day Teacher

Chun Della 9004 264792123Della holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She has worked as a tutor at an afterschool academy for reading and math, and gained experience working in childcare with infants/toddlers while she was in college.  She also spent a year in Korea teaching English to 8-15 year olds.

 

Julie Suh

Suh Julie 256453075Julie has previous experience working with After School Enrichment classes and tutoring children in math and Korean.  Julie is fluent in Korean.  She is a proud Montessori parent of three sons who have attended MCDBC and has been teaching here since 2014.

Yasleen Pena, Extended Day Teacher

Yasleen is currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree at Northern Virginia Community College in Pediatric Nursing.

Joyce Huang - Extended Day Teacher

Huang Joyce 9007 264792153Joyce holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Japanese Language and Literature from the University of Virginia.  Joyce has been an active volunteer with her church’s children ministry, caring for children in their preschool.  Joyce also has strong work experience in the customer service industry.  Joyce has been with MCDBC since spring of 2016.

Marisol Portobano - Spanish Teacher

Portobano Marisol 256451013Marisol is a bilingual native of Argentina. Her mother is from Bolivia. Ms. Marisol earned an Associate’s Degree at Northern Virginia Community College and worked in Accounting for over ten years before deciding to stay home with her two young children.  Ms. Marisol explored her love of Montessori by teaching lessons to her children at home. Ms. Marisol provides Spanish lessons to our toddler and primary classes each week.

Donna Cary - Music Teacher

Donna is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and early childhood music educator.  Ms. Donna has been presenting music programs for children for over twenty five years in both Kentucky and Virginia.   Ms. Donna’s music and movement classes are a hands-on exploration of various expressions of music, including song, rhythm, theory and performance.  While she has worked in a variety of different preschools over the years, she is particularly fond of the Montessori philosophies, which she often incorporates into her music classes.

 

AJ Rudnick – Yoga Teacher

AJ Rudnick is a YogaFit trained instructor who has been practicing yoga since 1998 and teaching since 2006. She was first drawn to yoga as a classical musician to help overcome tendonitis, control asthma, keep mentally alert, physically fit and reduce stress. She has taught yoga to children as old as 2 and adults as young as 82.
